NPC: Apprentice Craftsman

Location: Prontera Town (165, 60)

.: Introduction :.

Armor Enchantment (also referred to as Hidden Enchantment) is the process of adding a stat bonus to armor. Not all pieces of armors can be enchanted. Check the list below to see which armors can be enchanted and their estimated rate of success.

Each armor enchantment attempt costs 400,000 zeny. You do not have the option to choose which stat (STR/AGI/VIT/ING/DEX/LUK) to add to the armor. The NPC will randomly determine which one of the six stats will be added and the NPC will add a stat bonus between +1 to +3 of that randomly chosen stat to your armor.

It is possible to re-enchant an armor that was previously enchanted. In a successful case, doing so will simply destroy the previously added stat and re-apply a randomly picked stat and stat amount onto it. For example, if you are not satisfied with a +3 LUK applied to your armor, you can pay 400,000 zeny again to try your luck in getting another stat and stat amount added while wiping the +3 LUK off the armor. Remember there is a chance of failure in each attempt, in which case your armor will be destroyed.

.: Warning :.

Remember to read the NPC's fair warning before processing. If you haven't, here they are:
  • If an enchantment attempt fails, the armor and any cards compounded to it will be destroyed.
  • If an enchantment is successful, any upgrade on the armor, previous stat enchanted on the armor and any card slotted in the armor will disappear. That means you will get a "new" armor with the stat bonus enchanted on the armor and nothing else. If you wish to add card or upgrade the armor, do it after the armor is enchanted. However, if you want to add a slot to the armor with the Socket Enchantment NPC, you should get the armor slotted before you do the armor enchantment.
  • The zeny required is non-refundable even if the attempt fails.
  • If there are two armors of the same kind in your inventory, the enchantment will be applied in the order they are placed in your inventory. In that case, the enchantment may be applied to an item which you didn't mean to enchant. For safety precaution, only keep ONE armor you want to be enchanted in your inventory.

.: Success Rate :.

The NPC will let you select an enchantable armor from the three main categories of Non-Slotted Armor, Slotted Armor and High Grade Armor. Each category has a different success rate. The success rate of the armor enchant and the rate of getting a +1, +2 or +3 stat are independent of each other. Chances of getting a simple success is much higher than getting a +3 stat. But keep in mind a success ensure you keep the armor even if you are not happy with the stat added you can use the armor for another try.

It is worth noting that chances of getting each of the 6 stats are the same, nothing in the NPC suggests that getting a +1 STR is any more difficult than getting a +1 LUK.

The basic enchantment success rate for each armor category, regardless of +1, +2 or +3:
(Again according to eAthena Revision 15075)
Non-Slotted Armor: 72%
Slotted Armor: 65%
High Grade Armor: 60%

Chances of getting each of +1, +2 and +3 stat based on a 100% total success rate after a success attempt is determined:
+1 stat: 50%
+2 stat: 33%
+3 stat: 17%
Finally, the break down of success rates (obtained from multiplying each category success rates by each +stat success rates). Each rows sums up to be 72%, 65% and 60% respectively:
